Kindergarten

This September Sydney will be starting Kindergarten.  I remember when Syd was born someone saying to me, "Just wait, before you know it you'll turn around and be registering her for Kindergarten."  Honestly, at the time I thought it was kind of a stupid thing to say, the days with a newborn were so long and the thought of five years into the future seemed almost unfathomable.  It was hard to think beyond when the next nap or feeding time came along.

But the days did get easier and when that happened they also seemed to mysteriously pick up pace and here we are suddenly months away from Sydney starting Kindergarten.

The decision on which school to send Syd to has not come easily.  I have spent countless hours and many a sleepless night thinking about where the right spot would be for Sydney to have her critical first schooling experience.  For the past two years I have been researching schools, attending open houses, talking to families in many different schools and trying to get a feel for what felt right for Sydney and our family.

There was one school that really stood out above the others to me so we went through the process of applying and interviewing for a coveted spot.  Over a hundred families applied for 24 seats and this past Friday we received the most amazing news that Sydney has been offered a spot for Kindergarten this fall!  We are thrilled to say the least and I am so relieved that I can stop thinking about and worrying about how it's all going to turn out.

Sydney and I got up early on Friday morning as it was Pro-D day for preschool and headed to what will be her new school to drop off our acceptance letter.  It was a day I won't soon forget.  Walking through the doors of the school with Sydney in tow, knowing this is where I'll drop her off from now until she graduates was a surreal feeling.  This place will become like our second home and I can't think of a better place for it to be!

We have had a very low key long weekend as Sydney has had the most miserable cold so we've stayed close to home and just hung out together.

We did manage to squeeze in a little day trip to Bellingham on Friday while Syd was off school and had the best day shopping at Target, Trader Joe's and Ross.  We had lunch at our old standby, Olive Garden, which is fast becoming one of Sydney's favourite places to eat!

Syd was quite thrilled when she saw the blanket of snow that Bellingham had gotten overnight!

We even discovered a new Menchie's while we were there so we stopped for a quick treat on the way home!

No trip to the states would be complete without Sydney returning with a new pair of shoes, check out these sparkly Hello Kitty numbers!

Syd convinced me to buy myself a new watch while we were there too, she loved it so much that I had to come home with it!

We arrived home from Bellingham to find a special parcel at the front door from Grandma, a little Valentine's Day gift with some fun crafts for Sydney to make.  Sydney loves getting mail more than anything, getting this parcel absolutely made her day!

Sydney is so into rainbows right now, it seems that every picture that she draws lately has a plethora of colours on it!  She's brought some beauties home from school in the past week.

This morning we moved a little furniture around in the kitchen.  Decided to move Sydney's easel downstairs to her playroom for a while and brought up a little table and chairs in it's place so that she has some space to work on projects.  She loved it and instantly got to work colouring, what else, but a rainbow!

Syd and I decided to whip up a batch of thumbprint cookies this morning using a recipe from a kid's cookbook that we've read a bunch of times but never made anything out of.  Syd had such fun rolling the balls and making the little indentations with her thumb.

This morning for Family Day we had the pleasure of celebrating Sydney's friend Addison's 5th birthday with a fantastic Disco Bowling Pajama Party!  It was such fun!  The kids all showed up in the PJ's and bowled with glow in the dark balls under the most fabulous lights!

Addi's Mom, Amanda, made a great bowling cake too in keeping with the theme!

What a fun morning it was and so glad that Sydney is feeling better and able to enjoy the festivities!

Oh and as I sign off tonight I just have to show you the latest cute hairstyle that Sydney has been sporting, a long braid down her back, it's adorable!

Happy Monday!
