Galiano Island
This morning Paul, Syd and I got up super early and caught the first ferry of the day to head over to Galiano Island to spend the day with his sister, her husband and their family at their idyllic weekend home there. In all the years I've lived in Vancouver, I've never had the chance to visit any of the gulf islands, so I was thrilled to finally be able to see Galiano Island for the first time today!
The ferry ride over was so beautiful! It was a blue-skied, sunny day today and the scenery was incredible. Sydney declared, moments after getting onto the ferry, that she wanted to go up to the sun deck. Apparently she remembered riding the ferry last weekend to Parksville and what a beautiful view there was from atop!
This time, instead of taking our car on the ferry, we parked our car at Tsawwassen and walked on and Harry and Elaine met up on the other side. We had a short drive to their amazing island oasis! What an absolutely beautiful spot they have, wide stretch of waterfront property, huge lawn filled with fun toys, a swimming pool and a gorgeous home to boot. Who could ask for more? Sydney was in her glory!
Sydney spent a good amount of time on the beach with Issy and Nathan just exploring around while we drank coffee and enjoyed the sunshine and a visit.
Nathan caught a little snake on the beach that was hiding under a piece of driftwood, Sydney thought it was so cool! She was beaming ear to ear and couldn't wait to tell me about it when they got back from the beach!
We swam in the pool, enjoying the chance to cool off from the warm summer sun today!
Sydney loved riding around on the tricycle that used to belong to her cousin Tybie some thirty years ago!
Harry took us for a boat ride to Whaler's Bay. It was so neat to see the island from the water and to hear the stories about the people who live there and the history of the island. Ten minutes into the boat ride Sydney fell asleep slumped up against me, poor kid isn't cut out for life on the sea! The lulling motion of the boat put her right to sleep and she had a good nap in the sun and fresh air aboard the boat!
We enjoyed a lovely lunch together and even had a few visitors in the front yard, some deer who came to eat the plums off the trees on their property!
We took one last walk down the road a bit to Deerfield Beach with Heidi and Issy and Nathan for a quick swim before heading home.
What a perfectly fun and relaxing day spent on Galiano Island! I was so excited to visit one of the gulf islands for the first time ever and we all so enjoyed the relaxation and company today! It was a wonderful day!
