Latke Making and Salt Dough Ornaments
This morning I, along with a few other Moms from preschool, spent the morning making latkes for the preschool Hannukah party that is happening next week.
We arrived in class to see this sign:
It was so cute! We literally set up a factory line and worked like a well oiled machine grating and chopping, flipping and frying latkes. We even added a bit of zucchini this year to add a bit of colour.
They smelled so amazing while they were cooking, the kids were dying to try some so we let them have some with their snack and saved the rest for the party next week.
It was such fun! My friend Amanda and I did the same thing last year in Syd's two year old preschool class, we love that it has become a tradition for us!
This afternoon Sydney and I decided to make a little Christmas and Hannukah craft inspired by one they had made at school last week. Sydney's teacher gave me a great recipe for salt dough and we decided to whip up a batch and make some ornaments to give away to our friends.
We rolled the dough into snakes and twisted them together and then into a circle to make wreaths. After they dry tonight, Sydney will paint them tomorrow and we'll tie a ribbon to each one to give as our own personal Christmas ornament!
We had tons of dough left over after our wreaths were made, so I thought it would be neat to make a Hannukah ornament for each child in Sydney's classroom and give it to them at the Hannukah party. So we used the cookie cutters that we bought recently shaped like menorahs, dreidels and the star of David and made the cutest ornaments for everyone!
We then promptly headed off to the dollar store to get some glittery paint to complete our projects and baggies to wrap them in! It will be fun to get it all together over the next few days!
What a fun day of making things it was!
