My Little Artist
Sydney is so into art right now, specifically painting. Within minutes of getting up in the morning she is digging through her art basket getting her painting supplies out and asking me if she can paint. She especially loves making cards and will often tell me who they're for, Grandma, her friend Emma, Helen and Rania, her preschool teachers.
With the weather being so frigid these days I've been indulging Sydney's art habit a lot and we have created some beautiful cards over the past few days! Here's a few of her latest:
All of this artistic creativity got me to thinking about my friend Rachel. She threw her son Declan, who shares an exact birth date with Sydney, the most fabulous art party back in November. After the party, she gave us a very special gift. She took a picture of one of the paintings that Syd did at Declan's party and created photo cards with the picture on the front, fabulous idea isn't it?
The back of the card is by far the best, she has Sydney's picture printed and an artist's bio that reads:
"Sydney was born in 2009 in Vancouver, Canada. She is an emerging talent on the vibrant Vancouver art scene known for her bold use of colour and spontaneous works of whimsy. Sydney blends the concerns and methods of conceptual and appropriation art with craft-making and youth culture to create her own unique iconography. This mixed-media work explores themes of entropy and contemporary obsessions with cleanliness"
Hysterical! And so well written! Kudos, Rachel!
