A Week in May

I don't know what it is about this time of year but life seems to ramp up and get busy even without trying!  I am willing the weeks to slow down but literally turn around and it's Friday again.  Time marches on no matter how much you wish it could stand still!

Here's what we got up to this week:

Enjoying our Garden

We have had a good run of summer like weather over the past few days.  Sydney is so excited to see things blooming in our neighborhood and our garden!

She loves to pick flowers and then 'plant' them again in buckets of dirt in the backyard.

We are watching our lilac bush with bated breath waiting for it to come into full bloom.  We planted this bush the year that Sydney was born so I liken it's growth to hers each year as it becomes bigger, more beautiful and blossoms with avengance!

Syd found this Camelia bloom in the garden the other day and and decided she wanted to leave it atop of one of the bushes out front.

Horse Time

Sydney had another horseback riding lesson this week, got to ride her old friend Splash.  We have literally had a blue sky sunny day every single Monday afternoon that we've had a lesson, it's a little bit magical I have to say!

New Shoes

I have been shopping like a fiend lately trying to beef up my own wardrobe for the spring and summer season coming up and getting a few things that Sydney will need for the summer too.

Her feet have grown lately, she needs new summer shoes and I was only too happy to be able to get her couple of pairs this week!

Yom Ha'atzmaut

It was Israel's 66th birthday this week and Sydney's class celebrated in style by turning the entire classroom into an airplane and 'flying' to Israel with the kids.

Candice, the practicum student in the class now, even dressed up as a pilot for the occasion!

And Jen and Carmen donned their usual flight attendant suits:

The kids each got passports and brought little rollaway suitcases to school and had to check in at the airport when they arrived.

Playdate

We have been trying to squeeze in as many playdates as possible in lately before school ends for the year.  We had the pleasure of having Sydney's best friend from school, Julia, over for a play this week.  The girls just loved bouncing away in the bouncy castle together!

Happy Birthday Weston

We enjoyed a barbecue dinner with our beloved Dunbar friends at Lori and Marcus' house this week to celebrate their son Weston's 4th birthday.

Syd got more bouncy castle action in their back yard and enjoyed spending the evening relaxing with Mom and Dad and her friends.

Welcome to Kindergarten

Paul and I attended our official welcome evening at Sydney's new school this week.  We so enjoyed having the chance to meet some of the families that will be with us for the next thirteen years or so and getting a feel for what the day to day will look like for Sydney in the fall.

The school sent each family home with a beautiful lavender plant to welcome us.  Sydney literally squealed when I gave it to her, she loved it!

May this be the beginning of a life long love of school!

Artwork

Syd has done some pretty colourful paintings at school lately.  Check these out:

Banana Loaves

Each year Sydney and I like to give her preschool teachers a little something for Mother's Day and this year we baked banana chocolate chip loaves and wrapped them in tea towels and ribbon for their gift.

Shabbat

Only a few more weeks of enjoying Shabbat with the kids at the preschool together, I'm savouring every one!

And our family Shabbat, it's becoming such a special time and way to wrap our week up.

Mother's Day

I've gotten a few early Mother's Day gifts this week, not only did I do some pretty serious clothing shopping for myself as a present but Sydney brought me this beautiful potted Marigold in a pot that she painted with a note in it that read:  "Happy Mother's Day Mommy, I love you, Love, Sydney"  Precious!

Paul also came home with a gorgeous bouquet of white lilacs for me that he knows I adore!

I set up a special breakfast for Sydney and used them as a centerpiece at our table, it was so beautiful!

Wine with the Moms

I managed to sneak out this week and meet up with Sally, Michelle and Liz for a quick glass of wine and visit after we'd put the kids to bed.

What a great visit it was!  Love this group of Mommas!

Hope you had a great week too!
