An Autumn Afternoon
Sydney woke up this morning determined to paint. Minutes after she had her clothes on, she was rifling through the stack of art supplies in my office and came across a canvas on an easel that I had bought for her to paint on. She begged me to paint it, and despite the fact that we had to get moving and get out the door to school, I let her unleash her creativity!
This is what she created:
I think it's pretty beautiful and looks really cool mounted on the little wooden easel. It has made a lovely addition to Daddy's den!
Speaking of art, Sydney has been busily creating new things everyday at school. It has been such fun having guest students from Vancouver Community College in the classroom each day to do a special art project with the kids. They have been bringing such different and interesting materials for the kids to work with. Today she made this awesome fabric piece!
We got a special surprise in the mailbox today, a letter from Grandma addressed directly to Sydney. Syd was so excited to get it! She literally didn't even wait to get inside to open it, she sat on the front porch and ripped the card open right away!
Inside was the most precious card with a hand written letter from Grandma to Sydney and a couple of packages of stickers which Sydney was most excited about! While she was busy unpacking the stickers, I read her the note from Grandma, she was so tickled! It really made her day!
We went for a little nature walk yesterday after music class around the block in Kitsilano. Sydney was so excited to find acorns on the ground and collected a whole bunch along with some beautiful orange and red leaves from the maple trees in the area. We decided to take them to school today and she and her teacher Carmen filled the water table with them at the beginning of class! It was very cool!
After school today we decided to take advantage of the fact that it was a dry day, and drove down to our favourite oasis in the city, KJM Country Gardens in Southlands to check out their pumpkin patch.
Southlands is so beautiful this time of year!
Their pumpkin patch never disappoints! Sydney loved pulling her huge red Radio Flyer wagon around and chose three pumpkins out to take home, one for Mom, one for Dad and one for Sydney.
We proudly stacked them on the front porch in hopes that they'll keep until Halloween outside in the cooler temperatures!
We are loving the autumn in Vancouver! One of the things I love the most about our climate is the four distinct seasons that we get every year and I do so enjoy each one of them for different reasons!
